This canvas is a fragment. It constitutes the only surviving part of a monumental painting depicting the origins of the scapular of Mount Carmel, commissioned in 1671 by the Calced Carmelites to Lucas Franchoys the Younger in 1671 and for which Lucas Achtschellinck possibly painted the landscape.
